2012 HUDSON VALLEY WINTER CLASSIC
This past weekend the Team Twisters traveled to Bard College in Red Hook, NY for the 2012 Hudson Valley Winter Classic. This meet served as the first competition of the season for many of our athletes. A total of 24 of our athletes competed in this competition ranging from levels 4-9.
The weekend started out with our 11 level 4 athletes competing. The girls has a fantastic competition and earned 3rd place in the team competition. Mikayla lead the way with a high all-around score of 36.775 which earned her a bronze medal in the all-around competition. Mikayla’s individual sores also earned her 5th on vault, 3rd on balance beam, and 2nd on floor exercise. Not far behind was Skyler scoring a 36.550 and also earning a bronze medal in her respective age division. In addition, Skyler earned silver medals on vault and uneven bars. In her first competition ever, Marisa capped off the competition with a fantastic beam performance earning a gold medal. Jocelyn rounded out the top 5 finishers with a 5th place finish on floor exercise. Congratulations to the girls who are newly qualified to the 2012 Level 4 Team Cup: Dannika, Samara, Marisa, and Dylan! Also congratulations to Dannika, Angela, and Marisa who have entered the 9.0 Club!
Our two level 7 athletes competed in the following session. Zoe competed in her first level 7 competition earning a high score on balance (9.500) for the gold medal. Zoe also earned a bronze medal in the all-around competition. Amanda followed closely behind earning 5th place on balance beam in her first level 7 competition. Our lone level 9, Nikita, competed in the last session of Saturday earning a bronze medal on floor exercise.
Our level 6, Kate, started out the competition on Sunday afternoon and earned a personal best on uneven bars and the all-around. Kate came home with the silver medal on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and the all-around competition.
Our 9 level 5s concluded our competition by placing 2nd place as a team out of 6 teams. Amber, In her first level 5 competition, lead the all-around scores with a 36.150 earning the gold medal in her age division. Amber also earned the gold medal on balance beam (9.525) and floor exercise. Following closely behind was Lanna with a 35.750 also earning the gold medal in her age division. Lanna also earned gold medals on uneven bars, balance beam (9.500), and floor exercise. Rounding out the all-around wins was Kayla who also earned a gold medal on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Sarah put in a superb balance beam performance for a 9.350 and 4th place. Newly qualified to the 2012 Level 5 State Championships are Jacqueline, Kayla, Amber, and Samantha. Our new 9.0 club members include Jacqueline, Taliyah, and Amber.
